Celebrating the O,Miami Poetry Festival

 

 

 

THE O, MIAMI POETRY FESTIVAL & INSPICIO ARTS are pleased to present poems written about the practice of activities that occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020-2021. 

The goal of O, Miami is for every single person in Miami-Dade County to encounter a poem during the month of April.
The 2021 festival is almost over, but you still have a chance to encounter, engage and enjoy a poem.

JIM GILBERT’s 35-year career as a journalist and publisher is notable in that he was always able to write about things he truly enjoyed while living in places he genuinely loved. His career began as a weekly reporter and editor on Cape Cod for the Provincetown Advocate, then shifted to San Juan, Puerto Rico, Newport, RI and finally to Ft. Lauderdale, FL, where he was the founding editor-in-chief and ultimately owner of ShowBoats International, which he started in 1988.

NECEE REGIS has always explored creative realms, starting with the visual arts before segueing into journalism and literature. As an artist with an MFA from Mass College of Art, Regis has actively exhibited her sculptural wall pieces and works on paper in museums and galleries in Boston, Provincetown, Miami, New York City and beyond, as well as teaching classes and workshops at art centers and colleges.

SAM KAPLAN is 12 years old and a 6th grader at Miami Arts Charter School in Wynwood. He is interested in theater and baseball. He started Po,etry in Pajamas with his little brother Simon at age 7 . His favorite poets are Shel Silverstein and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
SIMON KAPLAN is 9 years old and a 4th grader at IPrep Academy in Miami. He is captain of his soccer team and is interested in mountain climbing. Simon loves watching the look on young poets’ faces when they recite their poems for the first time.

EMMA TRELLES is the daughter of Cuban immigrants + the author of Tropicalia (University of Notre Dame Press), winner of the Andrés Montoya Poetry Prize and a finalist for Foreword-Indies poetry book of the year. She is writing a second collection of poems, Courage and the Clock.   Trelles is currently the Poet Laureate of the City of Santa Barbara, CA.

BEATRIZ MONTEAVARO is an artist and musician whose work is influenced by monster movies, science fiction, Disneyworld (especially it’s themed area Adventureland, a midcentury representation of Africa, Asia, Polynesia, and The Caribbean), and underground music scenes including the 1970’s English punk scene and the Miami underground scene surrounding Churchill’s Pub, which she has been a part of since 1991.
