Founded by editor-in-chief Raymond Elman, ArtSpeak is sponsored by The College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts at Florida International University, and provides high-quality, in-depth insights into all arts disciplines with a focus on Miami and South Florida.

The curated video interviews listed below are presented in a unique multi-clip format and will be available for viewing at your leisure until mid-November, after which they will be replaced with a new group of curated video interviews.

Adam Gopnik: The New Yorker Cometh to Miami

 

Award-winning author and journalist ADAM GOPNIK has been a staff writer for “The New Yorker” since 1986.  Gopnik grew up in Montreal, living in Moshe Safdie’s Habitat 67.

 

 

 

Dennis Lehane: Author, Screenwriter, Producer

 

DENNIS LEHANE has written 12 international best selling novels. Four of his novels – “Live by Night,” “Mystic River,” “Gone, Baby, Gone,” and “Shutter Island” – have been adapted into films. A fifth, “The Drop,” was adapted by Lehane himself into a film starring Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, and James Gandolfini in his final role.

 

 

 

Anne Bernays: Author, Journalist, Educator

 

A novelist, journalist and educator, ANNE BERNAYS has been writing for over 40 years.  Bernays was married to the late Pulitzer Prize recipient Justin Kaplan.  They collaborated on several books including their memoir “Back Then.”

Susan Gladstone and the Jewish Museum of Florida — FIU

 

SUSAN GLADSTONE is the Executive Director of the Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU. Gladstone has served in several prominent leadership positions in the U.S. and abroad, most recently as director of development for the museum and for all of FIU’s Jewish Strategic Initiatives – including the university’s Global Jewish Studies Program, Holocaust Studies, and Hillel FIU.

 

 

 

Bob Mankoff: From The New Yorker to Esquire & Beyond

 

BOB MANKOFF  is a cartoonist, editor, and author. After making cartoons for “The New Yorker” magazine for 20 years, Mankoff became the magazine’s cartoon editor, succeeding Lee Lorenz. Mankoff held the position from 1997 to 2017.
