NECEE REGIS at RICE POLAK GALLERY

NECEE REGIS at RICE POLAK GALLERY

Necee tells the backstory of her airplane images. 5:19 min.

NECEE REGIS combines traditional and non-conventional materials in her work—Hydrocal, oil stick, Xerox transfers, graphite, ink, wood, paper—exploring themes that have long interested her: travel and distance, separation and longing, macrocosms and microcosms, maps and patterns. In her multiple jet series, Regis turns her eyes skyward, examining her emotional response to airplanes soaring overhead. Through the representation of this familiar image, she aims to reveal the distinct beauty of these huge objects while acknowledging the anxiety and vulnerability they bring to our lives. The intent is to evoke multiple responses and raise questions about technology, culture, personal longing and global connectedness. At the same time, the images maintain a formal purity that resonate with optimism, reminders of a time of simpler aspirations—when travel was synonymous with joy. Regis has exhibited her work at multiple venues from Provincetown to Miami, including three shows at the DeCordova Sculpture Garden and Museum, and is the recipient of a Pollack-Krasner Foundation Grant.
