AURIN SQUIRE is an award-winning playwright, screenwriter, and reporter. He is a recipient of the 2014 Lecomte du Nouy Prize from Lincoln Center and the Lila Acheson Wallace Playwright Fellowship at The Juilliard School. Billy Corben’s New Documentary “Screwball”

This March, Billy Corben is set to debut his next foray into the world of sports with his new documentary Screwball. The film will follow performance enhancing drugs, the black eye of professional baseball , delving into the Biogenesis scandal of 2013, that involved Coral Gables’ Anthony Bosch, the infamous founder of Biogenesis of America, and a litany of Major League Baseball players, including then Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez.
The film made its first appearance last September at the Toronto Film Festival to much acclaim. Variety critic Joe Leydon said, “This time on the mound, he throws heat and scores impressively….” This film is an addition to Corben’s other highly regarded works such as Cocaine Cowboys and 30 for 30 The U.

The Miami Herald published a story by Howard Cohen on January 7th, that Billy Corben, producing partner Alfred Spellman, and Miami New Drama’s artistic director Michel Hausmann are creating a stage adaptation of their 1980s classic film Cocaine Cowboys. We wonder what they will be selling during intermission.Given the existing audience for Cocaine Cowboys, many of whom have seen the movie multiple times and know some of the dialogue by heart (i.e. Mickey Munday, “Low tech beats hi tech”), we believe that huge success is possible.
